The Jefferson

The Jefferson in Hackensack is hands down the worst place you could possibly live. Management? Absolutely terrible. The community? Filled with rude, judgmental neighbors. The rent? Astronomical. For what, exactly, I’m still not sure. I’ve had multiple frustrating encounters with the manager, John, and the leasing office. They’ve shushed my roommate and me mid-conversation, denied things clearly stated in our signed lease, and constantly fall back on their favorite line: “There’s nothing we can do about it.” It’s almost comical how little accountability there is. I once paid a ridiculous amount to rent their “private event room” ($100 an hour for four hours even as a resident!), only to find out the bowling alley wasn’t even working. My wife and I spent over two years here and if I could have bought our unit I would have that’s how much we enjoyed our time here. We moved because we couldn’t pass up the home opportunity that came to us but if you’re interested in a great complex with great add-ons like their gyms and pool this is your spot. STORAGE STORAGE STORAGE. Out of all the places we toured this complex had a massive leg up when it came to in unit storage. Appliances were outstanding as well. All that being said one of the best parts of this place is the management team which is led by John. He handled two major situations that we ran into and went above and beyond to help us out. Which he absolutely did not have to do. We will absolutely miss this place.

AVOID AVOID AVOID Frequent fire alarms, broken elevators, and unpredictable water pressure makes living here a nightmare. Hot water? Forget about it. The fridge broke and no compensation for spoiled food. Visitor parking is a joke or nonexistent. When the security gate is working, it’s a car hazard. If your A/C - breaks by not shutting off and dropping to the coldest setting, you're stuck with a huge bill and cold. Let’s not mention how long it takes for them to bring someone out to fix the A/C. Dog feces and urine all in the hallway and elevators. The dog park smells so don’t get a unit facing it. Pitbulls, king corsos, Dobermans, and German Shepard live here. I’ve been here for over 2 years and the maintenance at this complex is excellent. My toilet issue was fixed quickly, and they didn’t charge me for it. The team was polite, responsive, and made the whole process easy. I really appreciate how well they take care of residents here.

It was a nice and clean apartment building with quite a few amenities. The simulation golf and bowling were the highlight for me. Outdoor area was also nice. The apartment was also clean and well maintained. It surely felt like a kids friendly place. It also had a huge covered parking garage.
