New Energy Works Timberframers

NEW built our dream home; if I could go back and start the process over again, I'd choose NEW again and again. I worked primarily with Jake and Luke (together, I consider them the dream team). I could write a treatise as to why this is the case, but for the sake of brevity, I'll focus on a few. (1) They are masters of their craft--the caliber, breadth, and scope of their work is unmatched. Everything from coordinating the colors of the deck, siding, tongue & groove, to the many technical components of actually building the house, there was no task too easy or difficult; importantly, they took the time to tackle each task with the same care and attention to detail. (2) NEW takes away the headache of building a custom home. Admittedly, I knew very little about construction. At every st

New Energy Works built our house and, since we were based in England at the time, were responsible for all the fittings including the windows. When two windows rotted out they attempted to get the manufacturer to accept responsibility, but failed. On the whole they did not handle the situation well and now the owner of the company deletes my emails without even reading them. Do not use this company. They have completely lost their sense of integrity.

I first noticed New Energy Works (NEW) in 1990 when I signed up for a timberframing class at their then Shortsville location. Our group of 12 students, led by the amazing Jonathan Orpin, learned how to sharpen our Sorby chisels (which we got to keep), make a mortise and tenon joint and together, construct a timberframe porch for one of NEW's clients. A year later I contacted Jonathan to construct a Douglas fir timberframe on our 1968 colonial house in Fairport, NY. I was impressed with their total handling of the entire project from permits to high quality and talented tradesmen that were enlisted. The day of our raising it poured all morning but that didn't seem to matter because at the end of the day our new frame turned out perfectly. I would totally recommend NEW for your timberframe p

I sent an email looking for information on March 11, 2021. The website says no in person consults at this time. Like most companies, even though they provide information to communicate via email, they fail to email you back or provide you with good service. I haven't heard back. Don't bother now, I'll pass. Edit for owners response: on the website I went to contact; finger lakes; and emailed ty as it said design/build by his name. They were very polite and responded to my email despite my poor review. Thank you.
