Many apartments in the building likely are behind on maintenance, so there's a good chance you may experience water leaks from the ceiling if you decide to live here. During your tour, make sure you carefully inspect the ceiling and dryer vents. While we lived here, water leaked on our furniture from the ceiling and it took weeks to repair the vents and ceiling. The vendor that did the repairs showed us the debris that's supposed to be periodically cleaned by the apartment. During this time, most of the apartment was inhabitable. When everything was "done", the entire apartment was covered in dust along with damage to numerous doors. It took us hours to clean up the mess. Essex's response was that we should contact our renter's insurance.
This building was previously owned by a company that provided excellent on-site management, with quick communication and effective support for any issues that came up. However, last year Essex Property took over, leading to a significant decline in resident satisfaction. If you don’t know about Essex Property Management, they are currently in litigation for allegedly price-fixing rents through a third-party software platform called RealPage. This is the type of company you are dealing with. Lived here for a year from 2024-2025, and while living here, my experience was positive—maintenance requests were addressed very promptly and the cleaning staff and maintenance staff were amazing. However, I have to agree with the poor management of this property, particularly regarding the move-out process. We were hit with over $1k in move-out fees, which meant we lost our entire security deposit, and were charged $400. We emailed management numerous times to ask for an explanation on the fees, but did not receive any response for weeks. After reading reviews that debt collectors could come after us, we reluctantly paid the fees, but I would exercise caution if I were a prospective tenant interested in signing a lease here.
Lived here for a year from 2024-2025. The apartment building itself was well maintained, clean, and modern. Any maintenance requests were promptly answered by the amazing maintenance team. However, it was very difficult to reach the leasing office post move out. Our emails disputing unsubstianted charges (such as a $600 apartment painting fee) went unanswered for over a month. We tried following up multiple times but were constantly being ignored. I would not count on the leasing office to appropriately address any illicit post move out charges unless you publicly post a bad Google review. Do not sign a lease here if you do not want to be hit with improper move out charges.
Recent: Both elevators were down, 3 times, in a week. That is 6 elevator accidents in a week. Aspects included: noise, smell, gym, package loss, false fire alarm, lease renewal, lack of on-site staff and the staff members in general. 1. NOISE. Noises are pretty bad coming from two causes: (1) living next to Mathilda, and (2) Keke's cafe, the cafe in the same building. Keke's cafe had serious noise during its construction. 2. SMELL. Carpet cleaning always gives pungent and unpleasant smell. 3. GYM. Gym is too small and heaviest free weight is 25lbs. 4. PACKAGE LOSS: I have lost my packages since deliveries were often placed on the lobby table instead of the lockers or the mailbox. 5. FALSE ALARMS. During my 1 year living here, I didn't count the many times of false alarms. There had also
