I’ve just recently signed my second lease and I’m excited to continue my life here at Cape Cottages! My garden has grown in size in the community garden area and I’ve met a lot of really nice people that inquire about what I’m growing and how they too could put out a garden in the two plots that are along song mall. I’ve met an amazing amount of fur babies and their owners, and everyone is very friendly. I continue to enjoy my home and I’ve been enjoying the changing seasons and being able to decorate accordingly. The maintenance people continue to be very timely in their response and as always do a very efficient job when they’re taken care of whatever things need to be done like routine filter, change out and even getting some cobwebs for me that are way up high on the ceiling! Wish I could give this place a zero star review, we are the first tenants in our brand new unit and yet there is nothing but problems.. Paint chipping on the stairs, doors falling off hinges, cabinet doors breaking and handles coming off, flooring detaching from the floor and bubbling. Just a couple weeks in the laundry door fell off it’s hinges almost my hitting then 7 month old daughter who was sitting less than a foot from the door while I was switching to laundry. Upon move in we were “supposed to have internet already in unit” that we pay for through the management. However we didn’t receive internet for 2 weeks and we’re forced to pay for a full month of internet that we didn’t have. My son lives in a Hawthorne property in Wilmington and with all his great experiences he has had I knew I wanted to be in one too when I decided to move here. I’m going to be honest and say I had some reservations after reading reviews online but I have had nothing but a great experience living here. The office staff are attentive and always get right back to you, any maintenance requests I put in are handled the next day and the property amenities are amazing. LOVE living here!

Don’t let the southern coastal look pull you in, look beyond that. Amenities other than the clubhouse are still “under construction” and the clubhouse wasn’t even completed for the first residents in 2023. The mailboxes and storage units were here in 2023 but still not functioning as of today. And anything goes when it comes to parking and trash. A dirty mattress is currently laying by the dumpster, has been there since early June and mailbox photo is from 2023.

RUN! GO LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE! LIVING HERE HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE!! Let me preface this by saying I don’t usually write reviews even if I’ve had a bad experience, I’d prefer to just move on & let it go but this company and it’s management needs to be held responsible, enough is enough. I wish I was exaggerating, I’ve waited almost my entire lease term before making this review. I tried to give RKW ( first management company) and now Hawthorne a chance to make things right and turn it around but it’s clear that Hawthorne actually cares less about their residents and that’s saying A LOT. I was one of the first residents to move in on 08/25/23 amongst move in delays and key delays these units were very clearly not ready but that didn’t matter because greed was the name of the game for cape
