Brookside Oaks Apartments

I've never bothered leaving a Google review, but felt compelled for this one. Lived here for less than a year. Cancelled the lease early: was charged over $3k in "cleaning/repair" fees when I left. Ended up being part of a class-action lawsuit against Essex for their unwarranted move-out fees. Terrible property management company. If you plan to live here, factor that into the cost.

Went to tour one bed/studios today. For 2600+ one would think the apartments would be very nice… no. Honestly I don’t mind the self guided tour, but quickly it was a no. The trim in the bathroom is super cheap rubber that is caved in between the wall and floor. But the icing on the cake is the roach inside the oven. Impressive i’ve never seen this before and honestly not quite sure how it’s even possible but one can only imagine if I quickly find a live roach inside the oven during the day how many are hiding out to be your unwelcome guests!! Besides that closet door was dated and barely moves when you try to open it

NOTE - The business attempts to take down negative reviews, which is highly unethical. I don’t usually leave reviews, but I feel like I owe it to others to warn them about this place. The management here is beyond terrible - rude, dismissive, and downright unprofessional. Every interaction with management felt like a battle. It’s shocking how they speak to tenants and how they get away with treating people this poorly. Corporate seriously needs to look into the management at this community - we’ve never experienced anything like this before. When you move out, don’t expect a penny from your deposit back. I’ve lived here for 13 months, and Brookside Oaks has been by far the best apartment community I’ve ever experienced in the Bay Area. The environment is safe, cozy, and welcoming, with an incredible view of Stevens Creek from my patio—truly one of the best views imaginable. The sense of community is wonderful, and I want to give a special shout-out to Jose, the most dedicated technician I’ve ever met. He consistently goes above and beyond to support the residents, and I always feel at ease knowing he’s on the job. My experience has shown that with Jose around, I never have to worry. This place is a disaster. Tenant well-being is not a priority here. The property is riddled with serious maintenance issues. Mold, structural issues, pest infestations like spiders and ants. These are treated like a minor inconvenience rather than the health hazard they are. What makes it worse is the culture of evasion and hostility. Management is known to deflect, downplay, and dodge responsibility. Transparency simply doesn't exist here. The sense of security is also deeply lacking. There have been multiple safety concerns within the community -- from poor lighting to reports of theft and unauthorized entries.
