Nest Communities

Currently dealing with these guys, and it's by far the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of working with. They check off pretty much every box of a terrible landlord. - Incompetent: My PIN factory reset because of a problem with their door and customer service lied to me about the cause, stating that the entire building was down (it was only my door) and it would be resolved within a few hours (it took 17 hours to get someone who could actually address the issue, and I had to break into my own apartment to feed my cat by then). I then got a call where they blamed me for not filing a separate emergency report after 5 separate calls, 3 texts, and a regular report, as well as additional contact from my partner. - Fraudulent: During this ordeal, I went to their office listed online

An absolute nightmare. They've failed their duties in upkeeping with trash, snow/ice removal, landscaping, etc. On top of them raising our rent, our neighbors have had nearly two dozen police reports filed against them and Nest has done nothing for us; we tried transferring to another unit, but the leasing office has stopped responding to us. The neighbors caused many leaks, resulting in property damage and cleanup we were responsible for. They've also made us clean vomit, urine, and feces from them when they spilled onto our outdoor patio. Nest has entered our apartment many times without telling us (and in non-emergency scenarios), and they do not prioritize tenant safety. My security deposit was withheld for over a month after I moved out (already illegal under NYS law). When I received my deposit summary today (6/22), I had $195.83 in miscellaneous cleaning fees that were falsified, including a $100 room vacuum fee. I have photos from my move-out (attached) showing that my room and other identified areas were cleaned, and I'm also being charged for areas of the apartment that I didn't even have ACCESS to as I was only subletting a bedroom. Furthermore, there was a squatter issue in my unit before I moved in that wasn't resolved until a couple of weeks into my lease, which wasn't disclosed to me until after I had signed. They have the hotline but they will just take your information down and no one will call you back Old heating systems so ready for the $400-500 electricity bills in the winter Took months to get an in unit washer & dryer combo, but takes 7 hours to wash & dry one load. EDIT 11/15 - IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 100 DAYS AND THEY HAVE NOT RETURNED MY SECURITY DEPOSIT. NO ONE WILL ANWSER THE PHONE DESPITE REPEATED MESSAGES AND THEY SENT CHECKS IN THE MAIL THAT BOUNCED. THIS COMPANY SENT CHECKS IN THE MAIL WITHOUT SUFFICIENT FUNDS IN THEIR ACCOUNT. If you are having problems with Nest - please contact NY General Attorney to put in a complaint. They need multiple complaints to start an investigation. This company is operating in bad faith and blatantly disregards both tenants’ rights and their own written agreements. At my move-out, I completed an in-person walk-through with their staff. During that walk-through, they explicitly stated — both verbally and in writing — that they would not be withholding anything because I left the property in excellent condition. It h
