11 peaceful months so far on 5th floor with no maintenance issues. Convenient washer/dryer in basement. Free radiator heat in winter. Need your own window or indoor room AC in summer. Nice hallway cleaners weekly. Respectful neighbors. Love the vintage tall ceilings.

All prospective tenants should be aware that the back of the building is directly next to a popular wedding venue. I often was kept up until 2 in the morning on weekends during the wedding seasons (Spring to early fall) not only because of the loud outdoor speakers, but mostly because my windows faced directly onto the loading dock of this venue. Employees would be moving heavy furniture & talking loudly until 2 sometimes 3 in the morning regularly. It impacted my mental health to a degree that I had to seek psychiatric help due to the intense insomnia I got from living here. I spoke to the landlord about potentially getting noise blocking window inserts (the windows are 120 years old and block zero noise) but he didn't think it was necessary. I have nothing but good things to say about living at St. James! I lived there with two others from 2013-15. Management was professional, consistent and met every need and question I/my roommates had. They always warned us of showings many hours in advance with postings on our door, let us know of building changes, fixes, renewing leases, welcome back letters, etc. The apartments themselves are vintage and have lots of space and character. Whenever we had friends over, they would comment on all of our storage space and fun features. Not to mention, you can't beat the price and location! Everything was included except electricity and it's right next to Marquette and downtown. I wouldn't trade my two years of living there for anything.

Lived her during my junior and senior year. 2012-2014. I loved it! quiet, vintage, historical feel to the apartments. I was lucky enough to have a balcony with the view towards downtown Milwaukee. laundry is in the basement so no need to do laundry at a laundry mat. Internet is included so we couldn't complain there. For a two bedroom, our living room area was big enough- kitchen was small but very do-able and the bathroom was big too. If you're into a more modern building this one is not for you. I absolutely loved my two years at St. James.

AVOID at all costs! Yes, the building is “vintage”, but that means waiting for management to fix things only when they are very broken. Aside from the very poor management, the entire lobby reeks of cigarette smoke, as the maintenance man has been permitted to smoke on the main floor in his apartment. It is very pungent and has made this apartment uninhabitable. I wish I could say management has been receptive when I’ve contacted them about this longstanding issue. They turn a blind eye and nose, claiming that everyone who smokes smokes outside. I’ve never had such a poor experience with a landlord and management. Consider yourselves warned.
