Highland Homes Lakeside at Tessera on Lake Travis

Our initial home-buying experience was, what we thought, going to be incredible but our post move-in has been quite a pain. Many of the issues that were called out during our inspection were not completed on time + additional issues were found during our day-to-day living. While this is normal (and we're ok with it), the lack of attention by contractors and the team managing them is not. We had multiple appointments go as a no-show or showed up with the wrong supplies/scope of work, nobody present to translate due to language barriers, and some contractors who simply could not perform the job/caused additional work (damages to wood flooring, paint all over the exterior brick of our home, contractors leaving metal scraping and sharp brick edges all over the driveway and landscaping). We bought our Highland Home in August of last year. Overall great experience from start to finish and continues to be a great experience. Seriously, I've never experienced a builder that was so good at taking care of customers. Their construction manager Eric has been incredibly thorough and always willing to help us. Even 7 months after the sale, he is still taking care of us with our warranty items. To say we really appreciate it feels understated.

During a recent kitchen upgrade, we removed an upper cabinet to discover a hidden LIVE receptacle. They would've had to hide this in order to pass inspection. How low and unethical can you get? Evidently, Highland goes there, no matter how low.

Decent builder if you want something that semi-custom. Standard floor plans with minimum amount of variations. You do get to select most of your finishes however like most builders they get you on all the upgrades as a standard houses in near what they show at the models. But we all know that's to be expected.

I have been in this neighborhood for over 2 1/2 years. My family has two homes in this community (one highland and one MHI Wilshire). Highland is a good builder overall and would recommend again. The other builder is MHI (Wilshire) which is pathetic in so many aspects. Really consider your options before setteling for this builder If you want to build in this community, talk to Highland and consider paying a little more for a better built house, better construction managers, cleaner/easier construction process, more options, larger lots, truthful sales reps that back up their word, and honoring warranty issues. (FYI, MHI Wilshire has failed on ALL of these) Note that this is a beautiful neighborhood (best I think in all of Travis county) that has a price tag/some down sides with it. Ever
