During our week in Greenville, we loved driving downtown and passing the Canvas Tower Mural (formerly the BB&T Tower) with its striking eight story painting of former educator Pearlie Harris and students. The Beach Company commissioned artist Guido van Helten to create this canvas dedicated to Harris for being the only Black teacher at an all-white elementary school in the 1960's. Beautifully done, the imposing images are so perfectly defined they could be photographs. If you visit Greenville, the building can be found two blocks from North Main St. in the Heritage Historic District at 301 College Street.
Never been inside, but this is the boldest mural in Greenville.
