Units are often not cleaned prior to move in - Seems to be a consistent problem across the board on these reviews and on the Facebook page "Appalachian State University Parents". In June we were given a move in date of Aug 7 (we moved in Aug 8). Townhome in Forrest Edge was filthy...grime on all doors, mouse droppings in cabinets and food spills down the front of doors/drawers, refrigerator pulled away from wall due to rust and leaking, loose food in the fridge, stove/oven covered in layers of cooked food, flooring with jagged edges sticking up, bathrooms uncleaned. I called the office on Aug 11 and spoke with Autumn. Today, my apartment was being shown to four very respectful young girls. I was notified about the showing roughly a week ago. The property manager, Josh, however, did not knock upon entry, and no verbal announcement was made. As a female living with three female roommates, I find this extremely disrespectful. I could have been undressed or in a vulnerable state at the time of entry. Not only has this happened when we have a text sent days before an inspection, but this has also occurred with absolutely no notice, text, or email. I have never left a bad review but feel an obligation to share my experience. For at least half of the 1.5 years I lived in a Boone High Country Rentals apartment there was a sewage leak all over my driveway. My roommates and I had to take our shoes off immediately before entering our apartment to avoid related health risks and maintain basic hygiene. The entire time they either denied its existence or sent maintenance people out to "fix" it just for the sewage tank to overflow and leak again, often within the hour. They never made any attempt to clean the driveway. I can't imagine the environmental impacts and deeply regret not taking this to the health department given how unresponsive they were to my frequent requests for them to solve the issue.
