Bought my house way under the appraised amount. They are charging me for the old amount. Absolute scammers. Wasting tax money left and right. Getting 4-6x what they got 10 years ago. Everything is still the same if not worse. We need major property tax reform and cuts.
I am a first time home buyer and I reached out via email to Betty Thompson, Taxpayer Liaison and I cannot even begin to tell you in words how wonderful she was! She was extremely responsive via email. Answered so many questions and walked me through trying for days to obtain my E-FILE PIN and getting some info I needed to make it even just a bit easier to protest our taxes and file our homestead exemption. I guarantee if everyone was as patient and kind and willing to help others navigate the TCAD site and obtain info that makes our lives a little easier, as Better did, you all would have very very happy Travis county residents! Betty, thank you so very much. You deserve a million star review for your help!!!
Unfortunately, my review board (ARB) experience on my property tax protest was biased and skirted tax code principles. The lack of accountability and upfront nature of it was shocking, considering I recorded the whole thing. 1. When requested at the end, the board did not give me their sworn affidavits 2. The board verbalized that they didn't receive U&E (uniform and equal) evidence for the recording when I had 5 copies of comprehensive U&E evidence brought to the meeting, with a copy for each plus a copy for the appraiser. 3. Even after I withdrew my market protest and the appraiser had no U&E evidence prepared, the board disregarded my U&E evidence in favor of the appraiser’s market evidence (even after my formal withdraw of the market protest) - completely against tax code. Has anyone had success trying to get the appraisal district to provide a home valuation beyond 10 yrs? Good luck I need a valuation from 2011 and made the mistake of driving to the office to get this I’m 75y/o. I’m the only tax payer in there looking for help. I went to the Travis County Appraisal via computer, couldn't navigate to see the name on my property and all of a sudden a pop up came telling me I was in luck they could help me. Help me for $1.00 to print the report. Went through the whole thing actually gave them my Visa for the 1 dollar pymt. and up pops also you are signing up for $20.00 payment every 15 days. Back I went to delete all my information so pay attention to what you are getting into. It's a scam.
