The Villas at Carl Sandburg

This apartment complex was awful during the time I lived here. My roommate and I experienced a lot of issues - mice when we first moved in, AC unit breaking during the hottest time of summer & the maintenance guy taking days to repair it, water heater broke during winter time, dishwasher wouldn’t drain, our sink leaked into the cabinet space underneath, pots & pans left over from previous tenants, along with left over food remnants. The carpets are filthy. I stayed at the villas for two years, and they raised the prices drastically with no changes, updates to the apartment spaces, or accommodations (saying it was “student affordable” was crazy). During the winter time, the parking lot or stairs wouldn’t get plowed or salted, in which my car got stuck multiple times, and I fell several time

Because the villas sent me a small small portion of my money back for my bad experiences, I chose not to write a review. However, even after 6 months, it leaves a bad enough taste in my mouth to say something. This apartment complex continues to take advantage of college students and their families, including but not limited to immigrants and international students. The price is outrageous and accommodations are lacking, which is generous terminology considering they basically don’t exist. Carl Sandburg itself has been an incredibly positive experience since I left the Villas. Was I the perfect resident? No, what college student would be?? Living at the villas at Carl Sandburg over the past couple years has been an amazing experience. The staff are super personable, always willing to help and genuinely involve the community that’s been created. They are very helpful and accommodating. The apartments themselves are well-kept and amazing for the price. I’ve met some amazing friends from living here. If you’re looking for the college experience but don’t want to go far or spend thousands of dollars at a large college, I would highly recommend giving the villas a chance.

I lived at the villas this past year and was not happy with my experience at all. We had a cockroach issue in our apartment. We notified them about it and it took them one month to take care of it!! There was hundreds of cockroaches and the situation was embarrassing and unlivable. They still made us pay rent through those months and to put the cherry on top we get a 90 dollar fee at the end of our stay! Would not recommend.

Between the rent being very affordable, the amazing staff, and the awesome up keep on the property I would definitely recommend adding this place to your checklist if you're looking for an apartment to rent.
