The Retreat Apartments in Roanoke, VA

Amazing place to live!! I just had to give kudos to the ENTIRE team onsite for the handling of the snow & ice. Saw maintenance out all weekend doing prep and plowing what they could. When the plowing wasn’t doing much after the ice, I saw some big truck out carving it off the lots. AND saw maintenance and office staff outside shoveling every single sidewalk we had. Blessed to this place my home - truly feel cared about and valued.

I've lived here for about four years and love it! It's a clean, quiet place to live. The staff holds community based events, and it's a wonderful way to get to know your neighbors. This is also a dog friendly community, which is something I appreciate most! I have a very friendly goofball who's made friends with most of the office staff and maintenance crew. ( She looks forward to greeting all her friends daily! ) I only have two complaints: The front office door is NOT disability accessible. The door is too heavy for anyone with weight restrictions, or anyone with mobility aids to get through. Corporate should consider changing this to make it a more welcoming environment for all residents. It feels like a slap in the face to advertise it's accessibility friendly when people can't even m

Terrible maintenance. Icy roads, maintenance in truck but no salt in it. Poor management. How can anyone get out and go to work? Pregnant and go into labor! Get with it staff.If we at these apartments could leave no star that's what it would be. I am pregnant and have to walk up the icy sidewalk to my car when I live down the hill that they will not put money into to maintain for their tenants. Don't move here.

I lived at the Retreat for nearly three years before moving out of the area. My experience was great! I loved that they were dog friendly - with fun events for the pups and always a jar filled with treats at the front desk. The apartment was spacious and modern. I had a great view of the mountains from my deck. The community was very safe and I met some wonderful people while living there. Staff was stellar - always kind and quick to respond to requests or minor issues that arose. I definitely enjoyed my time there.

This is an update after two years. The Retreat Apartments are probably one of the best around. The buildings and grounds are kept up nice and the apartments are spacious especially the two bedroom (Ridge). The office and maintenance staff are excellent and very accommodating. The only complaint I have is with district management..they increased my rent twice and would not budge after being told you could negotiate your rent when you get close to renewal. Besides rent you pay for trash, water, sewer, washer, dryer, required insurance and Internet which is standard for most rentals,. I did not renew my lease because I wasn't happy, but due to potential increases. It seems that it would be more cost effective to keep good tenants rather than frequent turnovers.
