The Citadel Apartments

The primary issue with the citadel is the lack of security and support from the building manager/Borger. It's a very low priority and ANY issues that come up tied to security or safety are a very low priority, which is a big issues living in a Washington DC.

Borger is a company with so much potential, but the staff they hire to “manage” the buildings are all borderline ignorant people, who can not or who choose not to read emails, communicate professionally, or act with any sense of decency after they’ve swindled you in to signing a lease. When I moved in, they had no keys for my unit and had multiple unresolved maintenance issues that the property manager agreed via email to rectify before moving in. The subsequent property manager always replies to emails with aggression and rarely, if ever answers questions from emails. The gutter smell is real. The air conditioning units constantly make noise so loud it wakes me up at night and the maintenance refuses to fix it. I’m looking forward to moving elsewhere when my lease is up.

My first impression of my friends apartment was that it was newly renovated and in a great location. But what you don’t know at first impression is the countless issues you’ll deal with while living here. My friend has dealt with their plumbing causing awful smells in the hallway, feces backing up into their shower with failure to resolve for days, and their sink backing up and also being unattended to for far too long, oh not to mention during the holidays. Also be prepared to walk the steps more often than you should because the elevator is constantly out of order.

I've been living here for about eight months, and I love it. Newly renovated, cleaned daily (except on weekends) and pet-friendly. The hallways can be noisy, but once you're in your apartment, you can't hear much of anything going on in other apartments. It's in an excellent location, and sits right above a grocery store. I took one star off because sometimes residents allow their dogs to pee in the hallways, and if it's a weekend, it won't get cleaned until Monday. And, once a resident threw up in the elevator and it wasn't cleaned until Monday. Other than those issues, it's a great place to live!

We found pictures of the Citadel online and immediately fell in love with the 1 bed /1 bath for the open concept, stainless steel appliances, and convenient location. Lawren (the staff we have been working with) has been extremely communicative, prompt in returning our emails / calls, and has been willing to work with us (despite our far away move date - we are looking for August 1). She provided information regarding availability, costs, and the move in process that was current, reflected what was featured on the website, and within our budgets. We have been extremely happy with the apartment searching process with her and cannot wait to call the Citadel our home!
