I lived at the Chalfonte for 3 years and I was really happy there :) The location is perfect, super close to restaurants, supermarkets, cafés, etc, and at the same time you still have the windows facing quiet streets to sleep, study or work. The smart design of the units are great, and you have small studios with a very good division of the living and cooking space. After living in a studio for one year I moved to a unit with a sun room, which added so much light and coziness to the house. Besides, the maintenance team is awesome. John, José, Gabi and all were kind and friendly, quick and efficient to resolve any issues (the building was built in the early 1900's, so occasionally we needed help, no big deal). Would highly recommend!
when I leave a review typically I leave something positive and negative because I believe we always have room for improvement. When I walked into chalfonte apartments I was unsure had alot of doubt but that all changed when I met Kevin he was so kind, patient and understanding he went above and beyond ,I believe Kevin is big asset chalfonte apartments, Kevin did the walk through the apartment complex ,the building inside and out is very clean so are the common areas laundry, gym ,bike storage ,grill (outside) keyless entry, I love that it has a locker for your packages the apartments are very spacious & clean , walking distance to Columbia heights metro I've been here almost month & I love it I'll check back in with yall in couple months give update!
This building is incredible! Been here 3 years. They fix all maintenance requests very quickly. It’s super dog friendly. Utilities are included with good window unit ac and radiator heat in the winter. The apartments have high ceilings, gorgeous floors, and nice 1920s charm. Walls are super thick. It’s also surrounded by trees, beautiful old houses, rock creek park and Mt. Pleasant. Only downsides are no parking and no dishwasher, but it will be so hard to leave this beautiful building.
I recently moved to another Bernstein property after 7 years living in two different apartments at the Chalfonte. Throughout my time there, I was impressed with how quickly the office and maintenance team responded to and resolved issues. Last summer, I worked with Kevin to get a ceiling fan installed in my unit. The process was seamless and Kevin was wonderful. He responded promptly to all of my questions along the way and helped make a horribly uncomfortable summer in DC a bit more tolerable :) This past fall when I decided to move, Kaytriel was a dream. They not only pointed me to other Bernstein properties that met my needs, they told me about a transfer program that allowed me to move between the buildings with ease. They answered all of my MANY questions with incredible promptness an
Unfortunately, a lot of the more honest reviews about this building are being censored / taken down. I am a current resident who has been less than satisfied with the condition and maintenance of the common spaces. It’s clear there are serious structural issues with the building. Another resident experienced a water leak that was never resolved - he ended up having to move out. A number of residents on the fifth floor have reported mold on the ceiling and not being able to use their closets. My own bathtub started peeling within months of my move-in. They just paint over everything. In addition, there are often non-residents hanging out in the lobby, and a friend reported a man sleeping in the hallway in front of her apartment. I often see roaches around my apartment and in the laundry ro
