Tauber Properties

I had a great experience living in one of Tauber Properties' Carroll Gardens apartments for three years. The building’s location, high-quality windows, and overall construction were excellent. It was the first apartment I lived in where I couldn’t hear my neighbors! Management was responsive to minor maintenance requests, and the super was friendly and capable.

I'll start this review by saying I don't usually write them. In this case I felt compelled to do so given the exceptional experience I had with Tauber Properties. My family and I had the pleasure of living in two of their buildings on the Upper West Side over the last two plus years. Both places were well maintained and on the rare occasion that any repairs were needed the response was prompt and professional. Their online payment system while not fancy gets the job done allowing you to pay your rent using a credit/debit card (the monthly points haul was nice). That system also allows you to send messages regarding any issues that need to be addressed. My neighbors were also very kind and mostly quiet--perhaps a testament to Tauber's vetting process. If you want to lied to and ignored, please do move-in here. Otherwise stay clear. My experience with Tauber Properties as a company and Makeda as a person was horrible. The communication was always problematic: she basically ignores emails and waits until you call her. Then she provides lame excuses: I haven't received your email, I have too much to do, etc. The move-in of a new tenant was delayed, although I specifically called and asked for the apartment to be prepared on time. Makeda lied to me that the new tenant wasn't interested in earlier move-in, which wasn't the case. They just could't clean it on time. They also charged me the rent even after moving out. Right now I am waiting 2 weeks for a refund and still haven't received the check.

DO NOT RENT FROM TAUBER PROPERTIES. The other reviews here are not to be trusted/not real. I lived at a Tauber property at 310 W 95th Street. The apartment was priced slightly below market, but had I known how terrible my experience with Mike Tauber, Makeda, and their full staff would be, I would not have moved in. I do not write reviews here, but feel it necessary to warn other potential tenants to avoid this utter scam. Here's a short list of just some of my issues: 1) They delayed my move-in date because the apartment was not ready and did not remunerate me for it or offer me an alternative place to stay. 2) The unit had a busted radiator with a pipe that banged against/was breaking through the floor, which they refused to fix. 3) The kitchen sink was broken, which they refused to fix

I have nothing but high praise for everyone at Tauber (especially Makeda). They were extremely thorough, helpful, and fair over my past three years of being a tenant with them :)
