Solana Highlands Apartments

I would strongly advise against renting an apartment at Solana Highlands. They do not clean carpets between tenants. I wasn't able to see the exact unit prior move-in. Instantly, I could see stains and discoloration over the entire carpeted area (living room and bedroom). The leasing office had no response except to claim that the unit had been cleaned. I purchased my own water carpet cleaning vacuum and cleaning solution and did it myself. The vacuum pulled up GRAY water immediately and it took multiple passes over the entire carpeted area for the water to run clear. It was obvious that this carpet was vacuumed but not cleaned prior to my move-in. This was YEARS of build up. Cleaning the carpets caused me to push my furniture move date by 2 days. Decent place to live but management deducts carpet cleaning and paint from your security deposit which is illegal and counts as normal wear and tear. We were only there for 6 months and left zero damage. Will go to small claims court to get the rest of my deposit back since they are unresponsive. I suggest you read up on California tenant laws to know your rights. Also the nails in our carpet were never nailed down which was annoying to live with. Told maintenance but they still missed some. Watch your feet!

Quiet and peaceful apartment complex. It is by no means a luxury apartment complex and is probably only a three star property in terms of amenities and build quality. I give it four stars because they allow dogs and the management is actually quite responsive compared to apartments in the past. Biggest downside by far is the plethora or spiders all around the property. They will literally build webs in the wheels of your car overnight.

I am writing this review to give not only Solana Highlands a 5 star review but also the manager, Tim. There was a miscommunication with my deposit after I moved out and instead of sending me a surprise invoice, he took the time to call me and explain the situation. He listened to me, understood where I was coming from, and we came to a resolution. I was extremely impressed with his level of professionalism and desire to make sure we were treated fairly. 5 Stars for Tim - He is an example of an exceptional complex manager. Great place to live for the first three years, nothing but frustration for the last year. This is a non-smoke free complex: my apartment reeks of weed from 6pm until after I go to bed. Management's response - nothing we can do. This is a dog-friendly complex, which is a great amenity. Until it becomes a magnet for untrained dogs that bark at every tiny sound from outside. Very disappointed in the downward turn of a once-great place to live.
