In my experience, this lender did not provide my mother with clear or adequate information about the reverse mortgage she was being signed into. At the time, my mother was showing early signs of cognitive decline — what her doctor later identified as an Alzheimer’s-related condition (Type 3 diabetes). She was vulnerable and relied heavily on professionals to give her accurate information. The loan officer did not fully explain the terms, long-term consequences, or risks of a reverse mortgage. Critical details — including the true cost of the loan — were not disclosed until the day before closing, when it was too late for her to back out or seek real legal counsel.
