Paragon Apartments

This review is mostly for the tour experience. We arrived to the apartment complex only to realize all leasing agents work remotely. There was no signal to call or text the phone number as requested. Leasing agent via text was also extremely slow in replying to unlock the unit doors. We were standing outside in the cold with no access to the units we wanted to tour. The call boxes also didn’t work. We requested to see the gym but that was not allowed. We were sent a link to 3D tour instead. IMO this was a huge turn off and impacted the way we viewed this apartment. Besides the negative tour experience, the unit themselves were decent. I lived here for over a year. During my time here, I went to the leasing office about five times — four times there was no one at the office, and the one time someone was inside, they told us to “back off” because non-staff were not allowed to enter, and they could not help with anything. After renting a 1B for 11 months, my renewal offer increased by $300. What’s worse is that they intentionally delayed replying to my inquiry emails until there were fewer than 30 days left on my lease (found out this is a typical Essex trick), clearly trying to pressure tenants into renewing to avoid the extremely high penalty. I’ve been living here for two years, but recently, homeless individuals have been entering the building, leading to numerous break-ins. I’ve consistently noticed homeless people sleeping near my entrance gate, often intoxicated. Management should install a keypad lock on the front of the gate, not inside. I’ve repeatedly contacted security and the leasing office, but no action has been taken. Homeless guy also has a liter that he uses and scared that he may one day burn the carpet and that could lead to a bigger fire.

Constant fire alarms going off sometimes even at 12 am, rude Customer service management company. Speaking down to you for asking simple questions. Apartments are all not carpeted so constantly hearing them stepping and even someone smoking in the unit above me. All in all terribly managed Maintenance team is nice, but little communications and they are split between multiple apartment complexes so they will take some time to get to you. Added- constant loss of amenities and privacy due to painting and/or upgrades. Don’t move here.

Essex Properties at Paragon and Mission Peaks in Fremont has a great Bay Area location, with well-designed buildings, decent wall and exterior colors, and good amenities. The leasing team is friendly and helpful, and the maintenance team is quick and professional, making the community comfortable and well managed.
