Legation House Apartments

I lived here for a year. A no frills apartment but the 1br is spacious for the price. I lived in the basement level and really didn’t have issues with pests. A few bugs here and there but all reasonable for city living. The major con is it’s a little far from the metro (20ish min walk) but very close to the bus and the street has events and a grocery.

I really love this hidden gem! It has a laundry room on almost on every floor so I can just walk down the hall, which is super convenient. I love that it is in a residential area so I have more peace and quiet to relax. Most people that I have met here are super nice. The maintenance worker is one of the best, very fast response time and always helpful. It also does not cost an arm and a leg to live here. It does not have amenities but we are allowed to use the rooftop and gym over at their sister property around the corner. My move in was very smooth and painless. Overall love this building and Bernstein Management!

Living at Legation House has been pretty great so far and we consider this complex to be a little gem in Chevy Chase. Coming from a few larger complexes with pricey amenities, it's nice to have found a more no-frills, laid back apartment community. And best of all? It's rent controlled! What we love: Spacious 1 bedroom units, very responsive maintenance crew, friendly leasing staff, utilities being included in rent, access to sister property amenities around the corner (gym and rooftop), great neighborhood, and overall clean and well kept building and grounds. Things that could be improved: It would be great to have an in-unit dishwasher (some apartments have them). Some time last year they removed the on property dog waste dispenser and no longer allow dogs to relieve themselves on any

After almost 3 years of living here, I can say that the goods outweigh the bads living here. Yes there is the annual power outage during the peak of summer that I wish was more avoidable, and yes we occasionally lose A/C during summer days. But other than those issues, maintenance is quick, hallways are quiet, and amenities are slowly but surely being updated and added. It has been a great experience overall and it's a great deal for the space if you can split it with someone!

I lived here for over a year and have truly loved 98% of my experience. However the last 2% is pretty significant because it’s the fact that this building seems to have a summer “tradition” of power outages. We get partial power during strong storms, even when there aren’t any downed wires or trees nearby. We’re consistently in the last 80-90% to have service restored. Not having AC in the middle of summer is infuriating at best and dangerous at worst, and the fact that BMC doesn’t seem to have backup plans for this semi-consistent problem really dampens my overall impression of the building.
