I lived at 507 West 28th Street for three years. Due to a family medical emergency, I needed to return to my hometown to care for my sick mother. Property manager Danelis, from Lalezarian Properties, explicitly stated that if they found a replacement tenant, my lease would be terminated without any further rent obligation. They found a new tenant for January and instructed me to move out by December 31 so they could repaint the apartment for the incoming tenant. January 1 was a holiday, and the new tenant ultimately moved in on January 5, after routine repainting was completed. Despite the unit being successfully re-rented, management attempted to charge me half a month’s rent for January ($2,700).
