Highland House

My experience was horrific, although the management team was great they just need to knock down these buildings! Completely infested with roaches and mice. Worst experience in my life I spent a whole year trying to find another place until I finally was able to move I still have PTSD and had to throw away everything.

I have lived at Westwood Apartments, which is part of Highland House, since 2022. This is a review about the current Property Manager (PM). There has been high turnover for the PM and the most recent PM Janelle is simply amazing. She really cares about the residents and the living conditions. Many of the other PMs did not care about the condition of the buildings and barely responded to emails. Janelle always took the time to answer my calls, emails and crazy rants. She never ignored me or did not listen (and I reached out to her a million and one times) and she always makes the residents feel respected. Janelle has made improvements to processes, inspections, cleanliness, and tried to ensure residents were heard (if even sometimes she could not change things).

Please, Please, Please don't move here!! For the amount they charge in rent you would expect maintenance and management to be more responsive. And you wouldn't expect for the building to be falling apart. First month of moving in there was a leak in the ceiling, And this was during the winter. You put in maintenance request but their response is never in a timely manner. If they do respond there's always a "we will send someone" and that someone has no idea what they are doing or can't fix the problem. There's always flooding in the laundry area, the hallways smell horrible most of the time. Lastly, the mice and roaches are out of control! Not sure what pest control services are being used but it does not work. I kept my place clean, did not leave food out. I was even afraid to cook in t

I moved in 4 years ago and I have seen a lot of improvement with this new management team. The current Management with Janelle & Zach at the office is compassionate and caring. Actually there are no words to describe how good they are! When you go over to the office with a complaint or a concern they tend to it as soon as they can. I love the way maintenance keeps up the grounds in the buildings, they listen and take care of business.

I lived at Highland House for 2 years and would have stayed if my non-profit salary was a match for MA's cost of living. A few of the things I got to experience while I lived here: -Monthly newsletters -Community events - Updated laundry facilities -A gym with the right equipment ( I should've used it way more) -A maintenance team that's skilled, dependable and good-looking. Janelle's promotion to property manager initiated a synergy in the management team (along with Zach, Hannah, Americo etc.) that has shown up in the care put into maintaining the property, the effort to build community and the way resident concerns are addressed. I rarely let people see me cry, but I shed a few tears before turning in my keys. I will miss living here.
