Horrible experience at Hampton Inn in Ottumwa...maintenance of the facility is majorly sub-par; thermostats not working, when rigged for a/c/heater to work was super noisy rattle; initial room smelled of mold; second room had another odd odor and insufficient hot water; 3rd room, doors didn't open properly to bathroom, thermostat didn't work, came back at night to room being 52 degrees, etc, etc. Reported all to staff, solution was to change my room at 2:00am... no response from management for all of the issues...this is a short list of the issues. There were many more. The management was supposed to get back with me. I checked out on 5/26/2025. Finally got an email from the desk manager on 6/14 with a bunch of excuses. Still no adjustment nor resolution, despite employees telling me

I power washed the entire hotel and striped the parking lot! The job was to pay 4000$ after completing the job completely the Hotel manager has refused to pay. I now have the Attorney’s involved! It has been two months and still no pay! The manager Laura Harshaw is a liar I would not do work for them. Instead of paying they would rather have a lean put on their building!

I recently stayed at Holiday Inn Express near MOA. The hotel is managed by Hawkeye Hotels. The hotel staff is not equipped for meeting the ADA needs of guests. I blame that on the management, not the staff. The staff were friendly but did not have the resources or knowledge to deal with ADA needs. I also did not get any response from the manager when I contact her via email.

Joseph Armstrong the manager of your Residence Inn property is completely unprofessional and totally non-responsive to guest concerns. My family stayed at your property for 5 nights while I was at the University of Iowa Hospital. We pre-paid our stays on Hotels.com but were mistakenly charged for our stays by the property. I was in recovery for a few weeks and didn't notice the charges on our AMEX a little over a month after the stay. I spoke to two front desk people who directed me to Joe and even gave me his cell because he struggles at returning messages and email. Long story, short. Through multiple phone calls to Joe, no returned emails, and zero concern to resolve my I issue, I turned it over to AMEX who can handle it from. I'll give them credit. I booked my hotel a month in advance, and then was emailed less than 10 days before my arrival that the hotel was overbooked and they would happily move my reservation to a hotel 10 miles away from the original hotel. When I asked if there was anything closer they said they would try their best to find me a hotel closer, and then subsequently never got back to me.
