This place is an absolute dump under new management, and ACTIVELY UNSAFE. For over a month in November, there was no property manager on-site or any building staff after Cortland acquired this property (formerly Yale West). Resident concerns with property break-ins, the back courtyard gate being broken, the garage door being broken and locking residents out of their vehicles, packages going missing, packages not being reported as delivered, etc. were not addressed. After new management finally moved in, they are not responding to tenant concerns about trash being strewn EVERYWHERE. Someone broke into the courtyard and literally destroyed the door. I’ve lived at Cortland Mount Vernon for over 3 years and I highly recommend it. The front facing units come with great natural light, and the soundproofing between floors is excellent. The management team is incredibly responsive and any maintenance request I've submitted have been resolved within 24 hours. If you are looking for an apartment that has a great location with luxury amenities... This is it!!

The dog park has become unsafe for our pets but Cortland will do only the minimum legally required to address significant concerns from residents there and other spaces in the back of the building. Cortland is “upgrading” unoccupied units to raise rents while ignoring the existing residents and all but guaranteeing the same turnover we had under Elme. The units are pretty nice, but that’s not enough to make a place feel like home. If you plan to never have packages delivered or picked up, not keep a car or bike in the garage, and shut yourself into your apartment on a high floor where maybe the broken gate isn’t a big security concern for you, you would still choose another building because the rent is way above what is appropriate for this area.

Ongoing operational and security issues make living here extremely frustrating. Trash is frequently left around the property, dumpsters are emptied at 6 AM despite repeated complaints, and there have been break-ins. Packages often go missing or are mishandled. The building went over a month without a property manager, and residents were threatened with late fees during a rent portal glitch. I would not recommend living here.

The absolute worst and most disrespectful landlord! They never repair the common areas of the building (including the garage door lock, which locked many residents out during a storm!!), they constantly try to charge us for their own mistakes (tried to charge late fees on rent that they charged two days late!), and totally fail to protect tenant's belongings like packages. Do not live here!
