1841 Columbia

Completely awful management and constant issues that are never resolved. On top of the list includes no AC unit for 41 days, ceiling fell in with water and they just spackled over it, washing machine is black with mold and they refuse to fix it despite multiple requests, cockroaches running in the elevators, all packages continuously stolen. Newest saga: They announce that they are turning off our power for the entire night...on a 30 degree night in the winter. And this means all of the food in the fridge and freezer goes bad. Literally how is this legal.

Do not move here, non stop issues with cockroaches and mice. Other tenants have issues with plumbing, water shut offs, ac & heating. The elevators, laundry and trash chute are always out of service. These issues would be solved with drastically better building maintenance. To top it off management is so frustrating, the issues never got solved just patched up for a week or two until they happen again. Stay away!

Have had a really challenging time at 1841 Columbia since I moved in last year. I was initially worried about the reports of pests/bugs, but didn’t have too much of an issue with that in my apartment. My biggest complaint is management being ill-equipped to handle a very old building in need of repairs. My room was without a working AC/Heating unit for six months, including winter months, and it was only fixed after a lawsuit and court order. The location is fantastic, and price is hard to beat, but if you have other options, avoid UIP-managed buildings.

I've lived in Adams Morgan for a while now, and my experience at 1841 has been nothing short of excellent. The management team is incredibly responsive and genuinely cares about the residents. They go out of their way to address any concerns promptly and ensure that the community is well-maintained. The maintenance staff is equally impressive. Anytime I've needed something fixed, they've been quick to respond and always with a friendly attitude. It's clear that they take pride in their work and strive to keep the building in top shape. Overall, the people here make it a wonderful place to live, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and well-managed apartment in Adams Morgan. Friendly neighbors also!

Roaches and mice. Constantly random people in and out of the building through the basement and lobby. There was a robbery in the alley where residents are allowed to park (only after 6 pm Mondays-Saturdays) and they didn’t even have nor put up cameras. Upper management is non-responsive. There is black mold due to all of the leaks. The only good thing about this building have been the maintenance manager and the office people, but they can only do so much. They have a whole lot of DOB violations too. Water is constantly turned off. ETA: They do not care at all. They will gaslight you and say repairs have been done when nothing has been rectified.
