Velo Forest Hills Apartments

We have been happy living at the Velo for almost 2 years. Great access to the orange line for an easy commute. Great amenities and modern / up-to date apartments. New management - Kevin, Chris, Joe - are great. They have been actively trying to build community and are super friendly, helpful & responsive.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. We loved it for the first two months or so but then it went completely downhill from there... And I can tell you all of the reviews about people doing drugs in front of the building is true. We just left an apartment that was right over that area. We never used our patio because of it. And we called cops multiple times because of fights outside our window... oh and someone urinated behind our building and a homeless guy slept on the couch in our building. The team will aft like they care but tell us as residents its our jobs to call the police and they do nothing to resolve the situation. So what you read in reviews is true. Joseph has been extremely helpful in the moving in process! Maintenance requests are handled in a timely fashion and all my questions were answered within a business day. They even fixed some extra work orders I had not even put in the portal yet. Absolutely love the apartment and the new security systems installed are super convenient for letting visitors in / seeing who’s outside the door. My floor is quiet and I have no complaints so far !

Velo's amenities seem nice enough, but the management's seeming unwillingness to deal with the open-air opioid, meth, and crack use in the "pocket park" they manage make it a blight on the neighborhood. Velo's owners have left a very large retail spot empty for seven years now, and as a result, the space they manage attracts endless crowds, day and night, of people in very rough shape who deal and use with impunity on their property. The site is horrifying: people inject, smoke, and pass out here on a daily basis. I've called 911 on a number of overdoses here. I think the owners must believe that this is a city problem, and not theirs to deal with, but leaving their retail space empty, presumably as a tax write-off, has invited the absolute worst elements to congregate on their property.

Living at Velo has been a great experience. The staff here deserve recognition for their kindness and cooperativeness. They take interest in the residents which lead to meaningful conversations. They are always ready to assist and make myself and other residents feel valued. The quick handling of requests and the welcoming atmosphere they offer make it a pleasant place to live. The amenities at Velo are also impressive. The grill area is great when the temperature warms up since its a perfect area for friends to come and hang out. And when it gets too cold we can come inside and hang out in the lobby and play pool. The gym is well equipped and lets me keep up my active lifestyle.
