Van Alen Apartments

While I just picked up my keys and I haven't yet lived there, I can speak to a few things about Van Alen that drew me in. First, I toured several apartment complexes in the area, and something about VA just felt "homier" to me ... I love the finishes, the way the complex is laid out and just the overall ambience. Second, I wanted a studio, and I liked that VA has only one style that they put a lot of attention into designing ... it's larger than many others (compared to a few complex's with similar pricing, it's about DOUBLE the size) and is actually a small 1-bedroom. Living here has been an excellent experience overall. The staff is truly exceptional they are friendly, professional, and always willing to help. I haven’t run into any major issues, which is exactly what you’d hope for in a luxury apartment community, and the team consistently delivers on that standard. A special thank you to Layla Perry, who goes above and beyond in every interaction. She truly sets the standard for exceptional service. My living experience at Van Alen has been great so far. The common areas are clean and the surrounding area has access to the best parts of downtown Durham, while feeling safe. Our experience with the leasing office upon move-in was very pleasant. Layla helped us find the unit that best fit our needs/budget and got us into the unit very quickly! Since moving in, we have had a few routine maintenance requests, all of which have been handled quickly and effectively. Most recently, we had a smoke detector unit that was chirping periodically and needed to be replaced. It started happening after business hours, so we had unfortunately had to call the emergency maintenance line to get the issue fixed that night. I cannot give enough praise for the great people working at Van Alen. I booked a tour of an apartment extremely last minute with Layla Perry, and she was incredible -- super nice, gave me a very thorough tour of the complex, and when I decided that I wanted to move in, Layla moved things along so fast that the next day I was settled into the unit. She and the assistant manager Ashli made me feel very welcome! The apartment itself is beautiful with excellent amenities. So far, an easy 10/10.

I’ve been living at Van Alen for almost six months now, and I can honestly say it’s an incredible community to call home. The leasing team (Layla and Yanahi) have consistently helped with any questions or needs, and Ashli does an amazing job creating a welcoming environment for residents while keeping an open-door policy for any issues happening on the property. This is also my first time living somewhere with a concierge team, and they truly go above and beyond every time I interact with them. It makes such a difference. Now the amenities are just amazing! A proper pool (not a tiny one like most places), a sky lounge, sauna, and steam room. Highly recommend living here and will be renewing next year!
