I lived at The Shay for a year. As with any other apartment complex in Nashville, there are several pros and cons. Pros: -great location, OneCity always felt safe to me -excellent management and maintenance teams -somewhat walkable area -nice amenities Cons: -we think that our apartment had mold, and while maintenance did look into it, I felt that it was brushed off and not taken too seriously -parking out front for guests/rideshare was almost nonexistent, as certain residents felt privileged enough to park there every single day instead of using the included parking garage (easily the biggest daily pet peeve of living here) -landscaping and property upkeep happens what felt like every single day in peak months which led to obstructed walking paths Overall, I would recommend The Shay.
As a resident of The Shay for over two and a half years, I have loved living at The Shay SO much that I decided to get a job here a year in to living at this luxurious and beautiful apartment complex! Some noteworthy things to mention are when you first enter the building, you are greeted by the warmth of a live plant wall and natural wood elements that capture your senses. What I loved when I first took a tour was the hospitality of the staff. The amenities are maintained on a daily basis so you feel that you are almost in a hotel lobby! My favorite amenity to enjoy to the full is the infinity style pool. You can catch optimal amounts of sunshine to get your vitamin D boost throughout the summer! The gym is also a huge two story gym w/ floor to ceiling windows that will get you to cancel
I recently toured The Shay in West End / Midtown Nashville, and I was really impressed — this place feels like the perfect blend of luxury and laid-back energy. The studio, one-, and two-bedroom layouts are thoughtfully designed, with modern finishes like stainless-steel appliances, quartz kitchen islands, huge windows, and built-in shelving. The amenity spaces are nothing short of spectacular: there’s a resort-style saltwater pool with a 360° horizon edge and lounge cabanas, plus a movie pavilion by the pool. The clubhouse is two stories, and there’s an energy bar overlooking the garden and pool. I toured The Shay after seeing several positive reviews. The tour itself was professional and well conducted. However, I ultimately chose not to apply due to their income verification requirements. As a self-employed applicant, I asked whether a combination of verified business deposits and substantial liquid assets could be used to qualify. I was informed that instead of meeting the typical annual income requirement of $67,000 (earning roughly 2.5–3x the monthly rent), I would need to maintain an average bank balance of approximately $67,000 over six months in order to qualify. That standard felt unusually rigid and not well suited for self-employed individuals, even those with strong assets and credit. If you are not a traditional W-2 employee, this may not be the best place to apply
