The Ruby Apartments

I recently toured the community and was really impressed! The property was spotless, well-maintained, and had a very welcoming atmosphere. The leasing staff were so friendly and helpful throughout the tour, answering all my questions with patience. You can tell they really care about the residents and take pride in keeping everything clean and comfortable.

I cosigned a lease there for my daughter, and she lived there for 15 months. The building is nice and clean and the staff were always responsive. I give it three stars because I felt that some of the fees we were charged were unreasonable. For example, the renters insurance they recommended, and we signed up for, apparently auto cancelled twice during her lease. Each time that happened, we were not notified by the renters insurance company and were charged $100 penalty! (I've heard of auto renew, but auto cancel?) Now I get the renters insurance company is different than the property manager, but that was pretty frustrating and a hefty fee, especially given it was the company they set us up with. Then, upon move out, we were charged $250 to turn the apartment. We were charged a $160 clean

DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! I've lived here two years. This apartment is a trap of fees, overly high rent, and corporate obstacles for a very unpleasant part of Tacoma. My weekly experience from the patio.

You can find better for the money. My move-in experience was not good. The unit wasn’t properly cleaned—hair in the bathroom sink, food residue in the microwave, sticky spots on the floor (despite a $125 “floor cleaning fee”), and a broken dishwasher. Ok, whatever, not a huge deal. The real issue is that the employee who did the walkthrough with me was completely unsympathetic, blamed everything on the cleaner who has been “slacking” lately, and just seemed annoyed that I spoke up. (To be fair, the manager and maintenance guy were sympathetic and addressed the issues.) When I tested the shower, it unexpectedly sprayed all over the floor. Again, not a big deal.
