The Roost

I regret ever coming across this place Booked through Airbnb and had some complications. Was left without a place to stay for 5 days. However, that can be blamed on the company managing the airbnb listing and such (vector). What I cannot accept however is the level of filth that this place is in. I was told that they were expecting me a day later (another miscommunication thanks to vector). I asked if it was okay if I checked in anyway as they said all they were waiting on was two mattresses and a couch to be moved, nothing else. They kindly agreed. I regret asking. The place stunk of cigarettes, there were burn marks and stains everywhere, multiple dead roaches, dirt and hair on the staircase and carpets, and the state of the vents was pitiful. Living at The Roost has been such a great experience so far! From the moment I moved in, the staff has been friendly, responsive, and genuinely committed to making sure residents feel at home. The community is clean, well-maintained, and has a welcoming atmosphere that makes day-to-day living easy and enjoyable. My apartment was in great condition upon move-in, and any small questions I’ve had were handled quickly and professionally. The amenities are a huge bonus, and the location couldn’t be more convenient for getting around Columbia. Overall, I’ve truly enjoyed my time here and would absolutely recommend The Roost to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-managed place to call home!

I don’t normally speak out like this, but I can’t stay silent today. We were so excited to move our baby girl into her first apartment—she’s a sophomore and had completed her application for The Roost Apartments with anticipation and trust. But what we walked into today was beyond disappointing. That word would be too kind. • Filthy carpet • Holes in the floor • Broken bed • Mattress with stains • Paint spilled on floors and cabinets • Filthy bathroom • Dirty tubs • Dusty vents and registers • Broken AC units • Broken dryer • Broken stair rail • Paint on tile in bathrooms and living room • Back Deck filthy • Registers rusted and filthy • And so much more The Roost knew yesterday was move-in day. I am posting this for my boyfriend because he and his roommates have had the hardest time with this complex. They have MOLD growing on all of their air vents and an obvious leak happening and the roost has “completed the maintenance task” on their portal yet nobody has shown up for the 3 days they’ve been calling about this issue. We have left voicemail after voicemail because nobody in the office likes the respond to the phone AND they still don’t respond to the voicemails left. It’s an extreme health hazard yet they are not doing anything about it. This is not the only issue that has happened to them, and we are not the type of people to typically write reviews but this is ridiculous.

IT WOULD BE BETTER TO CONSIDER LIVING ON THE STREET THAN IN THIS RESIDENCE. I LEFT THE ROOST AFTER ONLY TWO WEEKS BECAUSE THE SITUATION WAS COMPLETELY UNSUSTAINABLE. My experience at The Roost was catastrophic from start to finish. I strongly discourage anyone from living in this residence. I arrived around 6:00 PM on the day of my move-in, after more than 24 hours of travel from Europe. Despite the fact that I had informed the residence of my arrival time by email in advance, the front desk staff initially refused to give me the keys, claiming that it was “too late.” This already highlights a serious internal communication issue: emails are clearly neither read nor taken into account. When I was finally given the keys, they were the wrong ones and did not open the door to my bedroom. I
