The Maples

I’ve never written a Google review but felt this first one is warranted after having lived at the Maples for 3 years.. I would absolutely not recommend living here. Management (was Aly at one point but really not sure who’s here now tbh) seems to have a palpable disdain for tenants. I have submitted a variety of maintenance requests over the years (poor plumbing, broken doors, electricals completely dead/light fixtures not turning on) and it on average takes over 3 months for a reply. The few times I’ve felt comfortable reaching out to make sure my requests went through ok I’ve usually been met with passive aggressiveness (my bathroom sink was almost unusable for months due to poor plumbing. My fiance and I lived at The Maples for about 3.5 years and were very satisfied with our experience. The location was ideal for us, as we enjoyed being close to both downtown Portland and Beaverton, and we found the rental rates to be fair, especially compared to our previous complex and other complexes nearby. Dave (the manager) is knowledgeable about and skilled in building maintenance and repair and always responded promptly to maintenance requests. Dave is also very detail oriented and was diligent about posting notices (office closure, 24 hour notices to enter, lease renewals, etc) and was always on top of office paperwork. Had we not purchased a house, we would still be living there.

They ran my credit before I had even looked at the apartment. Dinged my credit, took my money and we decided we didn’t like the outside layout, it was kinda trashy looking anyways so we left. Sending off a credit report without first asking/informing me was a huge NONO. Kind of money hungry? A few days later they called and apologized that they weren’t in the office the time I had arrived. So if I would have actually gone to look inside they weren’t even gonna be there, and not let me know until a day later? They ended up actually approving me and sending me an email verifying just that, but after I declined the place sent me a rejection letter stating my credit or income didn’t meet requirements. My credit is 750 and I collectively make 4,000 a month w/my spouse. Like whatever.

Honestly, not a bad area. Nice and quiet. But the managers all suck cause they don't listen to your needs. And maintenance sucks even worse. Paint is all messy and EXTREMELY CHEAP, things not put together right, doors crooked etc...

Toured this property today and it was a pleasant experience. The new manager Aly was awesome and very kind and knew what she was talking about. Definitely considering applying.
