Swells Cottages

Not all that glitters is gold… while Swells appears to be a higher end, cottage-style rental home community, the reality is that you’re paying obscene amounts of money for minimal square footage to a management company that simply does not care about your experience. Communication is severely lacking, rules such as parking, no smoking, and pet waste collection are not enforced in the slightest. They charge $125 for a “landscape fee” for your shrubs to be massacred every other week. While the location is convenient, the construction is cheap, and many units are beginning to literally sink due to the land the development was hastily built upon. If you’re looking to burn out your hard-earned pension in a community that appears novel but lacks value, consider calling Swells your home.

Of course I can only attest to my own experience here and give my own opinion, others possibly have different expectations and may feel differently. Yes, this community is more "pricey" than many in the Myrtle Beach area for what you get, as well as a bit less than some, but for myself and my situation it's worth it for my peace of mind. NO place anywhere is going to be perfect, it doesn't matter where you go. One has to be realistic. For me the benefits outweigh the few negatives that may exist. There aren't many of the problems that come with living in an apartment complex type setting...well worth it for that alone. I love living here it’s wonderful lovely cottages nice people, gym,club house,swimming pool and they take care of yard work and valet trash pick up. Plenty of parking and terrific maintenance crew. All new appliances and blinds and you can decorate anyway you want! Private mail boxes and fantastic employees! I have lived here almost three years it’s safe and no problems!

We lived in Swells at Murrells Inlet for about 9-10 months. Due to certain circumstances and my wife's disability, we had to move earlier than expiration of lease. I gave management their 60 day mandatory move out notice. I asked the office people for the total sum to leave early? Their response was 1.5 months rent (almost $3000). Contributing factors were: even after having a reserved (disability) space/sign in front of our unit- ppl. kept parking there and management did nothing. Also, my SUV was keyed there by their office- no response. Another point was people littering and not picking up their dog's waste. There were NO maint. personnel on site for weekends. So, the pet stations were overflowing, no bags available. Also, ppl. would dump their garbage near the compactor but not in it?

I've been here for less than a year. While I don't know the new management and cannot comment about that, the maintenance team are rock stars! I've had a couple emergencies since moving in and the team went above and beyond (past work hours) to get things remedied. They care about the property and residences more than anywhere else I have lived.
