St Regis Residences

In today’s predatory hospitality market, the San Francisco St. Regis stands out as an anomaly. The staff are professional, caring and polite. The hotel is impeccably clean and well maintained. The receptionist and concierge were exceptionally kind and helpful. The hotel location is a bit of a turnoff, but one cannot be too picky in San Francisco.

St. Regis hotel has a 5-star hotel price, 3-star hotel room, but with a 2-star hotel customer service. Upon, approaching the concierge to check-in, he just looked at me without any greeting. I waited and then he asked if I needed help. I informed him I was checking-in and then he switched to his professional tone and helped me. I didn’t look the part for him, so he treated me like an outsider. You’ll have better overall service at The W San Francisco down the street.

Our first room the bath tub was broken from when we arrived. The water would not drain. We called the front desk and they sent someone to look at it who said it could not be repaired until the next morning. We had to call to request a different room. The new room had a working bathtub but one of the blinds in the bedroom was broken. For such an upscale hotel we expected better accommodations or at least compensation for having to move around. I would tolerate this from a different hotel chain but not from St. Regis.

Very beautiful hotel, and in every way 5 stars. It’s so expensive that it hurts- but If you want perfection this is where to stay. We had breakfast, dinner, high tea and used the swimming pool so tried quite a few of the amenities, and it was all lovely. They might want to section the swimming pool so those looking to exercise don’t have to swim around the kids playing. Also I notice people enjoying hanging out in the pool space so a few more chairs wouldn’t hurt.

Friendly and professional service. Worth the price? Didn't seem quite like it was really a 5-star place. +1 for having the 'do not disturb/make up room' button, but -1 for having a translucent door on the toilet room for no reason.
