Sherwood Apartments

I have been struggling to get my deposit back for 67 days. I moved out early after giving proper notice (although I still paid out the last two months of my lease). My security deposit was not mailed until after the 30 days allowed by WA state law. When I finally received the check, $175 was taken out for painting and $250 for cleaning, with no explanation or breakdown of the charges. The deposit check was made out to me, my old roommate, and our guarantor. We all live in different states now, so it’s been really hard to cash it. My bank won’t accept it unless we all sign it in person. I tried to contact the management company many times—called them 10 times and emailed twice over three weeks—but got no response. I lived in this building for over 2 years without any issues... until I gave my notice to vacate the apartment. I emailed management on April 11th for the apartment to be vacant starting May 1st (there was a 20-day notice requirement). The management company told me my notice was a day late and they would be taking my entire last month’s rent because of it. They would refund my rent if they “found someone to move into the apartment before the end of May.” During the COVID-19 pandemic. I tried to work with them to get a pro-rated amount back but got nowhere. Needless to say... no one moved into the apartment. I lived at the Sherwood Apts from March 2017 thru January 2019. The apartment manager Bryan was always super responsive to requests/issues and was great at communicating scheduled repairs and updates to the property. The building (ca 1906) is older, which comes with its own quirks, but it does have historic charm. It was pretty quiet, which was nice, though the intersection nearby was busy at rush hour. Overall, living there was a good experience!

They falsely advertise their prices then rather than refund your credit card they try to send you a check. If they cant take care of their website what does that say for the quality of their apartments.
