I have been living in my apt for approximately 17 years. It is relatively quiet and the grounds are kept for the most part. Unfortunately we have been experiencing a major issue with hot water. Many attempts to call the management to solve this issue has been unresolved. Jose our Super has been a gem. He goes above and beyond to help the tenants. Another unsettling issue is snow removal. Although Jose is out in the inclement weather/storms ..he clears all the sidewalks making it safe for us. On winer ice days, more hands are needed. However, the plowing company does very little to clean the parking lot at times making it an ice rink.
I have been living here for over 12 years, and enjoy the quite, friendly neighbors, and sense of safety. Unfortunately, communicating with management and the emergency on call super is very challenging as they do not return phone calls and if they do its not in a timely manner. Also, the number for the emergency super changes often and no communication is sent to us. For months we have been reaching out to management regarding the lack of hot water and still we dont have water...if luke warm water is what management consoders hot....im sure they have hot water in their home. Thank you to the on site super Jose, who goes above and beyond to make sure that our needs are met. Its shameful that we have to call him day in and night to check the boiler. Overall I enjoy being here. It's pretty quiet, there's always parking, my son can be outside since there I is not a lot of traffic on the street, and the grounds are kept well. One of my main concerns is with the show removal. A better job can be done with that. The super does well with the shoveling and de- icing initially, but sometimes more de- icing is needed, later, the next or the next, and it's not done. So at some points the walkways are dangerously slippery. The plow truck definitely needs to come through more fire the parking lots.
I like the building but i can't freaking sleep in this place! I live in apartment 1551 on front street and the tenant below me is a heavy smoker. Whatever he is smoking produces this pungent smell that makes my apartment unbearable to stay in during night time. If they have a "no smoking" policy, they are not enforcing it!!! I've had countless night where the stench wakes me up in the middle of the night to start coughing. I am thinking of moving out because I fear that I might get cancer from second hand smoking.
So far, my stay at Scotch Plains Gardens has been very positive. All of my appliances work very well, and there have been no problems with my living conditions whatsoever.
