Runaway Bay

I was a resident at Runaway Bay Apartments in Virginia Beach from November 2023 to October 2025. I rented a fully renovated unit which it was dirty, and the bathtub was clearly old (likely from the 1980s), despite assurances that the unit would be updated throughout with new appliances, carpet, paint, and vinyl flooring. I was relocating from out of state, I could not tour the unit in person before signing. If I had known what I know now, I would not have chosen Runaway Bay as my home. Extra and hidden fees: There are mandatory charges on top of rent. Instead of paying a standard refundable security deposit, I was required to pay a $39 monthly “deposit waiver” fee for two years, totaling $897, which is only a waiver program not a true security deposit. I recently moved into Runway Bay Apartments in Virginia Beach, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience so far! From the moment I first reached out for information, the process was smooth and welcoming. The community itself is clean, peaceful, and well-maintained. The grounds are beautifully kept, parking is convenient, and the overall atmosphere feels safe and comfortable. The location is also a huge plus—close to shopping, dining, and just a short drive to the beach. I especially want to recognize Stefany for being absolutely wonderful throughout the entire process. She was incredibly nice, professional, and genuinely helpful from start to finish. Can’t recommend this place enough. I’ve had some bad experiences in the past with apartments but I can say without a doubt the staff here alone makes it 5 stars. Will especially was so helpful through my whole moving process, it always felt like he was going out of his way to answer any questions or worries I had. It was between this and another apartment for me but how amazing the staff is here was the deciding factor. Even after move in, the few maintenance orders I put in were taken care of so quickly. It’s easy to see everyone who works here really cares about their job and that can be hard to find.

I do not suggest living here. My husband and I lived in this apartment complex from the summer of 2022 to October 2025. The first year we lived in one of the traditional one bedroom, one bath apartments. We initially had wonderful interactions with management and with maintenance staff. But the apartment itself had a roach problem since it was in one of the buildings that was extremely close to trash bins. My husband and I decided that we would continue living there except request an upgraded apartment in a different building, thinking that things would change things. I had a tour today to be a potential renter. The aprtmnts are average, as I see them. They offer upgrades that are more rent, of course. Not a bad experience, my tour guide was very pleasant & I would recommend these apartments for any 1st time renter. The price is a little steep for what they're offering, but again, not a bad set of apartments. Signed, TRB
