Rent in Richmond

Avoid this company and these people. I received two emails from this company about the late rent regarding my son's apartment. No one answers calls; they refer everyone to email them. I have left messages, yet no one has called me back. This organization has nonexistent customer service and is wholly unresponsive. My son received a letter from them on November 28, 2025, telling him to pay the landlord owner directly and to stop paying them.

As you can see from the many other reviews, RentinRichmond over the past several years has decided to run a scam/fraud operation, shortchanging their tenants and cutting every corner possible. They decided to stop responding to maintanence requests in our six months, and often approved requests and then quickly cancelled the orders to address them. Do not live here unless you expect to fight over the security deposit. They attempted to withhold our entire security deposit and more, despite us thoroughly cleaning. Everything they listed represented normal wear and tear, which they are not allowed to charge you for. John Johnson is the least professional, most smug, and generally useless property manager I have ever encountered in a professional setting. It takes talent and a true amount of effort to be as disorganized and generally abhorrent as this man. Seek elsewhere for your property management needs.

I have rented with this company for almost 5 years and have never had any issues! They fix maintenance requests the next day, are responsive, and have respectfully worked with me to make accommodations on my behalf. I can’t speak for other landlords, but John Johnson is honestly great and really cares about his tenants well being. Although some policies are a bit strict, they state everything clearly and have never been misleading to me or any of my friends who also rent with this company.

Awful experience. This company does not maintain nor provide maintenance for the properties they manage; only constant excuses with no offered resolutions. Will never recommend or do business with this company again! 0/5 stars! Leaving the one star review to make others aware of the level of service you will receive. Zero stars is more appropriate.
