Deplorable quality of customer service even through emailing. My girlfriend and I are moving to Portland in a few months and we inquired about the units at Ella Marie. Heather Souter is the person who answered our inquiry and she had a very condescending tone specifically when we asked if we would be able to pre-pay the full lease amount upfront. This is her response to that verbatim: "Not quite sure what you mean by "pre-paid rent." For example, if a resident has a zero balance due on March 10th and makes a payment then they would have that credit rolled into the month of April. However, if you are asking if we accept large payments to help qualify applicants the answer is no." First of all, pre-paid rent means exactly that, so how she could be confused by it is a bit of a head scratc

I was a resident of Ella Marie Apartments from 2019-2023. For the most part, I really enjoyed my time living there. The previous resident services managers and maintenance staff (Brandy, Bill, Joy) from Guardian Management were very helpful and respectful, even through the unfortunate events of the active-shooter, my car theft from the garage, water leaking through my ceiling, and multiple break-ins to the building. I understood those situations were out of anyone’s control and I appreciated their communication and responsiveness during those times. After the change to Marathon Management, I had multiple unpleasant interactions with Heather, the new resident services manager. She gave contradictory information about my lease, renewal options, and unit pricing than what was posted publicly

Despite the horrible reviews, I applied for a unit knowing I would qualify and to live in a more walkable location. Touring with the apartment manager was very awkward as she wasn’t personable what so ever. She also told me that our of 100 applicants, around 99 or them are denied for not filling out a simple pet questionnaire that can be done after approval, ( I know as my current place does this) I made sure to do the pet questionnaire right away, and submitted my application. I have a decent credit score and make way over the required income amounts and was DENIED because they couldn’t not verify my current tenancy with my landlord. Instead of calling and asking for more info they just denied me and opened it to the next applicant behind me .. how pathetic . Very unprofessional

We toured around 15 different apartment communities when first moving to Portland last year. The location and apartments at Ella Marie were by far our favorite. The flooring, appliances, and overall construction is extremely high end. The property manager, Brandy, has always been very helpful. We've had a few maintenance issues within the apartment, and the service manager, Bill, is always quick to respond and is a pleasure to work with. We've lived here for almost a year now and couldn't be happier!

*I am not a resident: this is strictly about an in-person tour experience* I was able to schedule an in-person tour with Joy Pope during the Covid and she has been so helpful and amazing. She made sure all of our Qs are answered and provided with a follow up email right after the tour. We instantly loved the unit, but with multiple personal reasons, we weren't able to sign the lease. But Joy provided all the information we needed and answered all Qs so promptly, even when she was off for the day! I never want to make anyone work off hours, but with our tight timeline, I really appreciate that Joy did that for us. I can't say much about the unit or the building itself, since I haven't lived in it, but if Joy is the manager, then I would probably trust that it's great. If we ever need any AP
