As we approached the one year mark of our new house build, we wanted to find a home inspector that was familiar with our builder. First Step Home Inspections was recommended. Matt McClymounds, the owner, spent four hours at our home. He climbed upon the roof, went into our attic and did a complete evaluation of the inside of our house. He explained exactly what he was doing and described in detail any defects that he found. Fortunately, no serious problems were discovered. I was able to forward his detailed report to our warranty folks and hopefully, the issues will be corrected. The price point for the inspection was moderate but it gave us peace of mind as we move forward. We highly recommend First Step Home Inspections. You will not be disappointed.

They found numerous issues during my 12 month warranty inspection that we had no idea existed. One issue, however, was completely mis-identified and is now likely going to cost me thousands. I showed him how the water would flow over our gutter and wash away the mulch underneath. He put in his report that the gutter had the wrong slope which caused water to accumulate in the gutter, then during heavy rains the water would run over. That was not the case at all. I recently had two roofing/gutter companies come to investigate. Both said it was obvious the builder installed the shingles wrong and had them protruding nearly to the end of the gutter so there was little space for the water to fall in the gutter. To fix it correctly meant tearing off 6-7 rows of shingles and re-installing

We were purchasing a new home in construction and wanted an experienced Home Inspector, who was also a licensed contractor to get an extra degree do expertise. We were fortunate to have found Matt McClymonds at First Step Home Inspections. Arranged for Matt to do the Pre-Drywall inspection. Matt discovered many areas that needed the builder’s attention, including a few creaked truss beams, the repair of which required an engineering plan. Don’t know if the builder would have caught these potentially serious issues, but the fact that they effectuated the repairs called by Matt evidences Matt’s ability to discover and analyze construction defects. Needing the advise of an inspector on a property I had under contract, I phoned First Step Home Inspections and left a message. Wilson returned my call promptly, took the time to answer my questions, and gave me great advice on how to next proceed.
