Casa Marias

Seemed a nice place at first. Then the landlord did not keep to the rental agreement, I was shown discrimination after the first week and then the entire remainder of stay, was stolen from for several hundred dollars of belongings out of room. Not to mention, the room was rented out with a year's worth of dirt from the previous tenant. I have literally seen squatters right's with more decency. Renter beware. If I had had another option, I would have left sooner and if I had known how much adversity/ actual racism I'd have had to face, I would have never rented there to begin with. If you are into/don't mind toxic rude environments then all you have to worry about is the failing infrastructure of the building.

Recently, I stayed at Casa Maria's. My whole stay was pleasant. The rooms, bathrooms, and commons areas were all very clean. It was a treat having one's own refrigerator space and storage area in the kitchen. Nice to get up in the morning to make your own coffee and breakfast in the fully stocked large kitchen! Maria' was prompt in replying to any questions regarding maintenance, etc. Also, the other tenants were quite and respectful. I would definitely again stay at Casa Maria's.

Whoever wrote that other review is obviously one of the few tenants that had to be evicted in the past year and so they are making lies up, so I figured I would leave a real review. I love Casa Maria's! Been here going a year..On site manager, no prostitution, no drugs, no problems! Great neighborhood! Everything you need in walking distance. Green Zebra, Bus/Max line, Fred Meyers, Multiple parks. Very cool old but well maintained building,and the management that has been hired has made a ton of improvements on the interior and exterior. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a clean, safe community setting either long term or even just short term for you types transitioning to Portland.

I lived there April - September 2017. The building is infested with bedbugs, and has a history of it. Maria won't have the whole building treated and sealed. She'll make it your responsibility when you get them. I had to take time off work to treat my room and everything in it multiple times. My room wasn't painted, had holes and cracks in the walls, and had only 1 wall outlet. During the entire winter just before I moved in there was no heat in the building which is illegal. You won't get your deposit back either. AVG rent is $585. I've never had bedbugs in my life before or after living there. If you move in, you WILL get them.

It's a nice place with a nice bunch of people. Maria, the landlady, is great. very good prices and month to month lease so it's a nice place if you want some flexibility. It's an old building that occasionally needs maintenance and they don't always get repairs done as quickly as they could. Over all is a very nice place.
