I think this apartment has been blamed by many extreme and biased negative reviews, so I want to share my experience in a fair and honest way. The managers have always been very kind to me, and I hope my review can provide more accurate information for future tenants. It would be regrettable if people overlook this building because they only saw the negative comments without knowing the full picture. I lived in Washington Square Apartments for one year and then moved to Brooklyn Plaza Apartments for two years in a 2B1B. Both buildings are managed by the same leasing company, and I chose Brooklyn Plaza mainly for the better location. This is a very bad apartment. The behavior of the property management will shock you. They treated my service dog as a pet and asked it to move out of the apartment, which seriously violated the Fair Housing Act (FHA). The property management team came to my place to harass me and asked for very strange reasons to enter my suite for a search to see if my service dog was still in the apartment. (I have complete video evidence.) And this apartment cannot guarantee the safety of your package. When my package was maliciously thrown into the trash can, the property management cannot provide any video surveillance to help me find out who did it, even though there are many cameras here. Some of the first floor apartments have a roach infestation they will not address, and they will try to hide this from new tenants. Everything was broken when we first moved in, the dryers don't work, and there was persistent mold in our bathroom. Unjustified amount of $ taken from our security deposit as well and a mailroom that's easily accessible to non-residents. The location was nice but that's about it.

The property managers are simply terrible. Here's my experience. We sub-letted an apartment during this past summer, but the people we sub-letted from left the unit a mess. There was an odor that smelled so bad that one of the apartment owner's workers, alongside ourselves, would get headaches when being in the room for too long. Simply unlivable. The toilet was clogged, sink drain was clogged, and the kitchen was something you'd see in Kitchen Nightmares. We told the property managers about these issues pretty early on into our lease, but it took them 2 weeks to fix the toilet and sink drain. Poor apartment quality, a robbed mailroom, persistent mold despite maintenance, and unjustified lack of return from our security deposit are just a few of our experiences having lived here. There are better options in and around UDistrict, and you should take advantage of them.
